Christmas Online 2021

Dear users, dear designers,
given the current COVID situation, a sociable Christmas isn’t ideal. That’s why I’m opening this thread so that you already know now, in mid-November, that you’ll have a place to go at Christmas. It’s only online, but here you can find like-minded people to chat with, etc. That’s better than nothing. It would be nice if you could support each other, if that’s needed and possible.

What are your plans for Christmas?

I’m still hopeful that I’ll get to spend Christmas with my family.

  Last year, we didn’t go to the church’s Christmas play because it was canceled. I haven’t checked yet to see if it’s being performed this year, but we won’t be going. That’s such a shame, because I’d love to watch it with my grandson.

But hopefully we’ll still be able to unwrap presents and have dinner together. We’re all vaccinated—except for my grandson. It’s not a guarantee, but with testing, we’re a little on the safe side. But that’s all we’re planning—just Christmas Eve.

Otherwise, we’ve already started going into a private lockdown. The fewer people out and about, the better for everyone—that’s our opinion.  

It’s similar for us—the family will get together for a meal. There are only six of us left, and we’ll all have had our booster shots by then, so that should be fine. But that’s as far as it goes—it’s too risky to do more.

My husband and I usually spend Christmas alone. We won’t know until shortly before whether his son will stop by. My daughter and her girls probably won’t come, to protect the children and all the grandparents.
Last year, they stood in front of the balcony at Christmas, so at least we could see each other. 

We’re also hoping for a Christmas with the family, but I’m not so sure, given how the numbers are skyrocketing.

Hi, I’m chipping in here.
Mom is coming to visit us on Christmas Eve. By then, we’ll all have had our third vaccine dose—including my son, who works at a nursing home.
On Christmas Day, the whole family—17 people—wanted to go out to eat together, and on the second day of the holidays, we’re meeting at Mom’s.
That’s the plan, anyway...
We’ll see how much of that actually happens.

I think my son will come to visit... that’s the plan. Just enjoying some cozy coffee and Christmas cookies...
Other than that, I only go shopping every two weeks and go to school with my dog once a week (4 people, keeping a very safe distance, outdoors).
I’d love to visit my mom—my sister lives right next door with her family. Alex is 4 now... so Christmas is already something “really special” for him... but it’s no use—the numbers are just too high... 😔

For years now, we’ve been celebrating Christmas just the two of us:
no stress and no unrealistic expectations.

How are you all doing?

Not so much right now. I’m sick, sitting at the doctor’s again—everything at home is piling up. I really wanted to at least make things nice for us at home.

Maybe you can work on a little something at a time, in 5-minute increments.
Just do as much as your condition allows.

@Marita - Especially now, when you’re thinking about everything you still want to prepare for Christmas, you’d rather not be sitting at the doctor’s office. Wishing you a speedy recovery from me, too.

I’m feeling much better already. I was so dizzy this morning. I couldn’t do anything at all. I think I didn’t tolerate the medication I took yesterday very well.
