What is blanket wool / Aran wool?

Dear users and authors,
I read something in a product description about blanket wool and Aran wool, and I didn’t quite understand the difference. Could you explain it to me?

Does anyone have anything to say about this?

Unfortunately, I have no idea—I’ve only heard of Aran jackets or sweaters, the ones with the thick cable patterns.

As far as I know, “Aran” refers to the thickness of the yarn or the recommended hook size. Yarn weights range from “fingering” (very thin) to DK (thin to medium), Aran (medium), chunky, and bulky (thick). The terminology differs between the U.S. and the U.K. So Aran is a medium-weight, relatively sturdy yarn. For crocheting, you usually use about a 5 mm hook. In that sense, the yarn is well-suited for sweaters and, of course, blankets. I’m not familiar with the term “blanket yarn” as such. I suspect, however, that it refers more generally to yarn that can be used for blankets.
By the way, Aran yarn has nothing directly to do with Aran cable patterns, although you can certainly knit them well with this yarn.
