Differences between a scarf, an infinity scarf, and a Möbius scarf?

Dear users, dear authors,
What is the difference between a scarf, an infinity scarf, and a Möbius scarf? Which one do you prefer?

I’d put it very simply:
scarf = long, loop = round, Möbius = round but twisted.

I have lots of scarves. My silk loop is either too short or too long. I don’t have a Möbius scarf.
I tend to go for the simple scarf.

Best regards, Marlies

Thanks for the info.
How do you wear your scarf?
A simple knot? Wrapped around your neck several times?

It depends on the length. I have a few different ones. I wrap a really long one around my neck twice and also use it as a “hood” when it’s really cold and windy.
When dancing, I tie my silk scarf in a tie knot. A lot of people in the group have started doing that too.

Doesn’t that get warm with the tie knot?

We tied the knot further down rather than right at the collar. That way, the scarf stayed in place better and didn’t slip around as much.
Before that, we’d put the scarf under the blouse collar and wrapped it once around our neck. That was warm but uncomfortable, and it kept slipping.

You must be so stylish.

It used to be, unfortunately. I left the group because someone there couldn’t tell the difference between private messages and group chats. Before I end up with a stomach ulcer because of such liars, I decided to leave—even though it was very hard for me and I miss the dancing.

I picked out two more photos.

I have all of them. Which one I wear depends on the situation.
Right now, I like to wear a wide scarf that I just drape around my neck so it’s open in the front. It’s a great accessory for me because the jacket I’m wearing is actually still too warm to button up. But paired with the scarf, it’s perfect for me.
Since a loose scarf like this also distracts a bit from any extra weight around the hips, I like to wear it on other occasions as well.

I wear scarves and loops. Usually every day, since I like to keep my neck warm.

Loop: made from thin yarn, worked single or double, for the office, to match my sweater or shirt

Scarf: I wear this too, no matter how long it is—I wrap it around my neck several times and always tuck the ends between the layers.

Of course, during the cold season I also wear a scarf made of thick wool, but even then I wrap it around my neck several times. Somehow it always finds a place on or inside my jacket.

I knitted a Möbius scarf once because I wanted to try it out. But it didn’t really capture my imagination.

I mainly wear loops. Since I’m very sensitive to drafts on my neck, I always wear a loop at work—a scarf would be very impractical there.
But I’m going to crochet a pocket scarf for myself soon.

A pocket scarf? Oh, I’m curious to see how it turns out and whether you’ll be happy with the result, or have you already had some experience with it?

I’m still working on mine—I’m making it using a pattern by Petra Perle. I’ll post a photo when it’s done.

Actually, I don’t really like having anything around my neck, but when it gets too cold, I’ll wear just a long scarf—wrapped loosely twice around my neck with the ends hanging down in front. In that sense, a pocket scarf wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all....

Well, I don’t know where those words always end up—I meant to say “I haven’t made one yet” :-) in my previous post.
I imagine a pocket scarf like that would be really cozy—just slip your hands inside. I’m curious to see how it turns out.

It’s great to see you all have so much to say on this topic.

Besides these three types of scarves, there are also neck warmers—I knitted a bunch of those years ago for the children’s food bank, as well as some loops and a Möbius scarf. I ended up giving the Möbius scarf away because it was way too warm for me.

Best regards, Inge
