Handmade shoes: experiences?

have any of you ever had shoes made?

No, unfortunately not, Josefa, because these days you need a very fat wallet to be able to pay for these shoes. They’ve always been expensive, but now I can only say: ouch.

Having leather shoes custom-made is a luxury these days. There are hardly any shoemakers left who can do it. And I couldn’t afford it anyway. But there are also people who need custom-made orthopedic shoes. Those are made by a master orthopedic shoemaker.

I also make custom shoes—namely, my felt shoes. They’re always in the desired color and shape, and after a few hours of wearing them, they fit like a glove. So, “handmade shoes, light version” :-)

No, I’ve never had real leather shoes custom-made, but I do sew my own espadrilles sometimes—it works great.
