Yarn in the suitcase for vacation

Tomorrow we’re heading off together for a family vacation over the long weekend. Of course, I’ve been thinking for days about what yarn and other supplies I’d like to bring along.

So today at noon, I started packing and gathered everything I might feel like crafting with while on vacation. We’re only going from Friday to Monday. But the longer I looked for a specific type of yarn that I absolutely wanted to bring, the more I found that I could try out or maybe even finish.

So I’m bringing two UFOs—both shawls have been sitting in the box for two years.
The socks have also been sitting there for quite a while,
along with yarn for five hats—I just can’t decide
on the color. I want to try crocheting acorns with the eggs; I discovered this online. And if the first one turns out nice, it shouldn’t be the only one—that’s why I have four eggs to crochet around.
Then there’s cotton for a new pattern for a dishcloth—maybe I’ll get a great idea for it while out in nature.

How about you? Do you bring that much with you, or do you just take yarn for one project?

Or do you even buy new yarn on vacation for your crafting sessions?

Oh Petra, that sounds veeeery familiar. I always stand there too, unable to decide. But as experience has shown, I end up doing just one project anyway.

That’s why I now take two projects with me, along with the yarn for them.

If you have enough space, just take everything with you and decide while you’re on vacation. ;-)

I always take two UFOs with me. That sense of accomplishment when I manage to finish at least one of those poor long-neglected projects is such a great feeling! And if I manage to finish both—WOW! There’s nothing better!

Oh my... that sounds familiar... 😂
We always go on vacation in our camper, and for at least three weeks... Space is very limited then (according to my husband). I “stood my ground” and take a shoebox of “things” with me that simply have to come along on vacation (knitting things, coloring book, pencil case, something to read, etc.). Since he doesn’t bring anything like that, his understanding of it is, to put it mildly, “very limited.”
I usually take just one project with me on vacation, a shawl I’ve always wanted to knit... usually made from very fine yarn, so one 100g ball is enough... He doesn’t really like it when I knit on vacation anyway, etc.
And yet there are such beautiful places where knitting was truly an “experience” ... In the Abruzzo region, Campo Imperatore, a high plateau... right in the middle of the “meadow”... simply wonderful 💖

Whenever I head out to the Alte Land, I always bring a bag of yarn with me. My husband is always completely flabbergasted: “Are you going away for a while?” Well, with multiple colors, stuffing, and so on, you just need a bag.
Then, when I’m sitting there working on my project, he says, “Oh, there she goes making her knots again.” Last time, my bag stayed at home (he actually wanted to take it with us in the car). Then he gave me a look and said, “Why aren’t you making knots today?”
Sometimes, when he wants to “take a moment to reflect” at lunchtime, he’s actually quite happy when I’m busy crocheting. Then he can “look inward” in peace… lol.

Well, my short vacation is over now. I’ve read your posts and found myself smiling at some of them.

I admire everyone who can pack so lightly—and especially those who tackle an unfinished project or start something completely new while on vacation. Of course, my family also asked how long I planned to stay here when they saw my box of yarn while unloading the car.

Of course, with so much family around me, I didn’t have much time for my yarn, and I brought most of it home untouched. Now it’s going back into various boxes to wait some more.

At least I knitted two hats for my grandson featuring his current favorite characters—winter is coming, after all—and I crocheted two acorns for my fall decorations. Pictures will follow once I’ve transferred them to my computer.

Here’s another picture of my acorns. They were really easy to make while doing something else, without having to pay much attention

Those are cute, simply fantastic....
How big did they turn out? They’d look great as decorations on my living room windowsills. I still have these really huge windows, 2.20 m long and pretty high.... with a windowsill to match....

My acorns are about the same size as the yellow wrapper for the contents of Kinder Surprise eggs. I’ve crocheted around these ones here.

I also tried it with a Styrofoam Easter egg (much bigger), but it didn’t look good with my Catania yarn. My family said the yarn was too fine for that size. I’d like to try again with a thicker yarn.

Petra, I think the size of your acorns is just right. They go well with the pumpkins.

Yeah, they fit perfectly there. But I thought I might like some to hang in the window—between different branches. We’ll see. I’m going to give it another try... if it doesn’t look good, I’ll just rip it out again.

Great acorns.

The problem I have with yarn is that if I have to go back to the hospital, I never know what to take with me.

On vacation, I go without yarn.

Without yarn—I can’t even imagine it. Sometimes I wonder if I might actually have a little problem. 😂

Go on vacation without yarn?????
My husband tried that with me once....
Once we arrived in Vieste, the first yarn shop “belonged” to me! !!! I think that’s when he regretted it, if not before 🙈😂😂😂🙈
Wow, they had such beautiful yarn, and since I couldn’t decide what I absolutely had to knit, I had to get the right needles to go with it, too....
