Dear users and authors,
What is a circular yoke, and what do you use it for? Can it be knitted or crocheted?

Dear Josefa,

A circular yoke can be crocheted or knitted. It’s the term for a garment that starts at the neckline and is then worked in rounds—like a circle with a hole in the middle for the head—with even increases.

Hi Haekelhoernsche,
thanks for your reply. It’s great that you’re joining in here.
Could you explain what the difference is compared to RVO?

Phew, I hope I can explain it well. With a top-down raglan, you tend to have a more angular/square shape and usually a kind of “side seam” where the stitches are always increased in the same place.

With a circular yoke, you have a circle that gets larger in every round, and here you have the option of increasing the stitches in a very flexible way. For example, you can simply double every 3rd stitch and in the next round double every 4th stitch.
That way you don’t have a “seam,” and the increases more or less disappear invisibly into the pattern.
The advantage is that you can adapt the circular yoke to any size without calculations, simply by adding more rounds.

I hope that was understandable so far.

Best regards
Häkelhörnsche
