Yessss, I have a tattoo—the Chinese character for “love” on my shoulder blade. I wanted a tattoo ever since I was a teenager, finally got it when I was 19, and still think it’s really beautiful today :-)
I have an “I’m 18 now and need a tattoo” mistake on my back.
I don’t regret the design (a clover, wings, and my siblings’ initials…), but I do regret the execution. It’s tiny and totally boring :D
I’m going to have it redone when I get the chance—with the same design, just better :D
It took me a long time to find a tattoo artist I really liked. I looked at lots of pictures of his work and said, “Something like this, but…” He sent me home for the time being, saying, “Come back when you’re sure of what you want.”
So I sat down and drew the design myself, exactly as I imagined it. He then added the finishing touches—what has a beginning should also have an end. For me, it was perfect, and I’m still happy with my tattoo today.
I would have loved to have another frog design on the back of my foot, but since the tattoo would basically be done right over bone in that spot, it would definitely be very painful, and I couldn’t really bring myself to do it. Today, now that I’m a lot older, I’m glad that I decided to get just one tattoo back then and chose a spot on my body that usually only I can see.
I think it always depends on how you grew up, or what you’re used to :)
My dad, for example, has tattoos covering his entire arms from top to bottom. Almost everyone I knew had ink under their skin.
So to me, there’s nothing more normal than that.
But ultimately, everyone has to feel comfortable with it themselves :)
Over the course of my life, I’ve realized that my tastes and priorities have changed so often that I’d never dare get something so permanent.
You can also get something done with colors that fade over time.
I also think it’s not exactly good for your skin.
But to each their own.
My brother was in the Navy and my husband in Naval Aviation; it would never have occurred to either of them to get a tattoo, even though tattoos are actually quite normal in the Navy.
Hey everyone...
I think tattoos that are “well done” are really beautiful. I don’t have any myself—years ago, I picked out a design, a dragon, totally beautiful… with its mouth open, meant for my chest… but then it occurred to me that in a few years, its “jaw” might be hanging down quite a bit 🙈, so I decided against it. After that, I didn’t really look for designs anymore. …
A friend of mine, in a “I’m finally 18” frenzy, got a Smurf tattooed on her shoulder… She bitterly regrets it today. 😂🙈😂
I’m still toying with the idea of getting a little rose. But I can’t quite decide if I should get one or where to put it.
When he was younger, my uncle had some very risqué tattoos on his hands and forearms. Later, he bitterly regretted it, and he even had to have skin grafts done on his hands. That left some really ugly scarring.
Still, I’m toying with the idea.
I’ve had a dreamcatcher I designed myself on my ankle for over 25 years. Back then, that spot was still a bit of a special place. I’ve never regretted getting the tattoo, and I still think it’s absolutely beautiful :-)
