I need help

Hi everyone,

so far I’ve always managed to figure things out on my own, but this time I’m stumped.
Maybe someone can help me and tell me what I’m doing wrong or what I need to do differently?!

This is what it’s supposed to look like…
Image removed, Mod.

and this is what it looks like 😕

It’s supposed to be crocheted in rounds.
At the end of each round, I make a slip stitch into the first stitch of that round, a chain stitch, and then a single crochet into the stitch where the slip stitch was made.
Of course, I carry the yarn along and crochet it in. Out of desperation, I’ve even tried crocheting the whole thing in spiral rounds, but it looked even worse 🙈
I’m starting to suspect that the pattern has a small but significant mistake.

I’d be grateful for any tips, tricks, and help!

Best, Sue

It’s best to contact the designer if you got it here.

@Authors + experts,
could you please reply quickly? I need to remove the photo taken from a pattern book.

@Strick_Sue,
welcome here with us.
It would probably really be best if you contacted the author of this pattern.
I hope our authors + experts reply quickly so I can remove the photographed image, since you do not have the rights to it.

OK, I’ve removed it.
Maybe someone can still help you.

Hi, I’ve only ever crocheted in the round using a single color, but I do have a few suggestions:

If I’m understanding this correctly, it’s crocheted like a ball. And once there are no more increases, you switch to a second color. Doesn’t the pattern specify how many stitches to crochet in Color A and how many in Color B?

I tried to recreate it. In your case, Color B is shifting to the left.  I’ve already crocheted the last single crochet before the color change using the new color (insert the hook and pick up the yarn with Color A, then with Color B through both loops; then crochet the specified stitches with Color B up to the last stitch before the color change, and crochet that one again with the new color through both loops).

I always make a slip stitch into the chain stitch at the start of the round. Then one chain stitch, and the single crochet goes into the first stitch.

Maybe you can also avoid the shift to the left by turning the work at the end of the round.

I hope my tips were helpful.

Thanks for your reply, WollewunderPetra.

The pattern specifies how many stitches of each color should be crocheted.
I crocheted it exactly as you described, but it’s still shifting.

I’m starting to think there’s a mistake in the pattern that I haven’t found yet.

Have you tried turning your work after each round?

Too bad—I was hoping it would work to crochet the stitches in the second color.

And improvising: if the pattern says “now 3 stitches in yellow,” could you just start crocheting the stitches in yellow one stitch earlier?

These are all just ideas for reaching the goal by a roundabout route.

Hope you still find the solution

Thanks for the additional ideas ☺️

I haven’t tried turning the work after each round yet. But I’ll give it a try.

I’ve also thought about improvising, but haven’t tried it yet.

🙈 Out of sheer frustration, I set the whole thing aside, but I’ll give it another shot in the next few days with renewed courage. Sometimes that helps.

Best regards, Sue

Hi Sue....
You’re crocheting in tapestry crochet, right? So you’re carrying the yarn you’re not currently using and crocheting it in....
Try crocheting the single crochets only into the back loop—so not through the entire stitch, but just into the back loop. That’s the only way you’ll get a stitch pattern that doesn’t shift.

So the stitches sit directly on top of each other....
