Crocheting a knit look: what is it good for?

Dear users, dear designers,
what is the benefit of the crocheted knit look = stitches that look knitted, but are crocheted? Is it difficult to do, or easier than knitting?

Example here:
Baby pants "Circus" crocheted from leg to leg (knit look) sizes 50-104

Crocheting to look like knitting is a relatively simple alternative for those who can’t knit—but want a smooth, even stitch pattern.

I think that for some things, a knitted pattern simply looks nicer...
For people like me who can’t knit, it’s a great alternative and a nice way to get that stitch look :) 

How difficult it is is probably a matter of opinion. Everything is “easy” eventually once you can do it :)
