Dear users, dear designers,
what is the difference between a soul warmer and a jacket / vest?

A soul warmer is the same size as a bolero

Soul warmers are usually knitted in one piece; I’ve always knitted mine as a large rectangle, then sewn the narrow sides together and knitted or crocheted on some sleeves and a collar, depending on my preference. I love my soul warmer!

Best regards, Inge

Does this specific style serve a purpose? Is there a reason for it?
Couldn’t you just wear a jacket or vest instead?

I suspect that these soul warmers simply evolved from wide wool stoles—a stole tends to slip off your shoulders, but if you sew sleeves onto it and pull it over your head, it can’t slip anymore and stays right where it’s supposed to, warming your *soul* :-)

Best regards, Inge

I heard once that soul warmers make your butt look like a duck’s. Is that true, or did I misunderstand something?

This is the first time I’ve heard of this too, Josefa—I have no idea.

Check this out—
I think I’ve got the soul warmer concept down.
When you look at it from this angle, you can clearly see how the soul warmer is made. As long as someone is wearing the soul warmer, it’s not entirely obvious.

The English term might be a bit clearer, since a “soul warmer” is actually called a “Cocoon Wrap.” In other words, something you can snuggle up in.
