Marlene pants / culottes / palazzo pants

Dear users, dear designers,
do you like Marlene pants or culottes or palazzo pants?`Could someone explain to me what the difference is?
If I understand it correctly, culottes are wide-cut but only ankle-length. Marlene pants have a narrow, high waist, but are then cut a little wider without being overly wide. Palazzo pants, on the other hand, are very wide, made of lightweight fabrics, and more suitable for vacations than everyday wear?
It would be great if you could share your thoughts on this.

Dear Josefa,
you’ve really laid out the distinguishing features well. I wouldn’t have known that without looking it up. I just know that I recently bought a pair of summer linen pants, and they have very wide legs—so they’re nice and airy and also flattering, as long as you’re not too short. I only like that cut on the legs for summer pants, though. For all other seasons, I prefer a more fitted style.

I’m sure the seamstresses or fashion enthusiasts among the CP readers can shed even more light on this for us.
Best regards, Ina

I had to look it up because I wouldn’t have known without doing some research.
Thanks for your post, Ina.

We can see that CP is educational. I’ve already learned quite a bit here—thanks in part to your interesting posts, dear Josefa. Now I’m probably dreaming of a pair of palazzo pants…

I find them very elegant and sophisticated. I’ve come across quite a few online, always worn by tall, slender models basking in the southern sun. Mostly made of silk, with colorful patterns, light and airy—totally elegant and beautiful. When you wear pants like that, the rest of your outfit and your shoes have to match. They wouldn’t fit into my everyday life, and the look would be too flashy for special occasions. I live in a rather rural area, so it doesn’t really fit in here. But I still think they’re beautiful.

The trousers Josefa describes are portrayed correctly, but with palazzo trousers you should make sure that, first, you’re not too full-figured, otherwise you’ll look like a little barrel — in my opinion, that doesn’t look good. And the culottes, as Josefa writes, are only ankle-length, but that means they don’t end at the ankle, they end above the ankle. In plain English, they’re flood pants ;-) :-) And Marlene trousers have a crease 99% of the time, often also a turn-up at the bottom, and look best in suiting fabrics. These days, though, all of this is interpreted and handled very loosely. With all these trousers, you should make sure they fit well and that you’re not too short for them. A pair of trousers can have a wide leg and still be cut close to the body, like my brown linen trousers from last year. With all these trousers, you should also make sure the fabric isn’t too heavy for the trousers, otherwise they hang like a potato sack instead of falling lightly and loosely

Best regards, Inge
