Pleated Skirt / Pleating Technique

Dear users, dear designers,
what is a pleated skirt, or how does the pleating technique work? Which of you like pleated skirts?

There are a few patterns on the topic of pleating in the shop.

How does it differ from box pleats?

Pleats are small folds ironed in a row next to each other, and a box pleat is a single fold sewn either at the front or the back. Skirts usually have the box pleat at the front, while coats and jackets have it at the back
Pleats are found on light, flared skirts and dresses, and also on the front of blouses. They make the garment more comfortable and roomier without being too noticeable

Do the pleats stay the way they were sewn, or do you have to iron them back into shape every time? I can’t quite picture it.
So box pleats allow for freedom of movement, and pleats are flattering to the figure?

There are pleats that hold their shape permanently, but there are also some that you always have to iron back into shape, and honestly that’s a real pain. I had to do it during my apprenticeship, and I have very little desire to ever repeat that kind of thing :-) The best thing is to hang up a pleated garment soaking wet, so there’s a chance it will more or less keep its shape that way.
With loden coats, you’ll very often find an inverted pleat at the back; it provides the necessary freedom of movement and makes the coat comfortable to wear.
Here’s a blouse I sewed for myself with an inverted pleat at the front; that also has to be re-pressed after every wash. I love this blouse because it’s so nice and airy and loose :-)

The whole thing with the pleats and box pleats is really complicated. :-)
