I've actually always liked them. They fit better in boots than leggings do.

Since I’m only 1.50 m tall, it’s hard to shorten these pants.

I used to wear them all the time as a girl, but now that I’m a bit chubby, I wouldn’t wear them anymore.

"Horizontally slim" (great expression!) applies to me too, but I think they make you look slimmer. Of course, with the right top—and not exactly with a bare midriff...grin.
