To the crochet pros

Ladies,

even though I’ve been crocheting for years, whenever I come across a granny square like this, I always run into the same question: where do I start?
I read somewhere that you always start between the first two double crochets. That would be picture 3.

What do you think?

I do it like in picture 2, too.
In picture 3, wouldn’t your number of double crochets at the end of the round be off? 🤔

It depends on where you inserted the hook in the last stitch before the corner!
