Drops Yarn Selection

Hello, I’m brand new here :-). I’m actually more of a knitting person—crocheting isn’t really my thing. But for the sake of my soon-to-be-born grandchild, I’ve decided to pick up a crochet hook. I’d like to crochet a tiger. I’m a fan of Drops yarn, so I’ve decided to use Drops Safran. But the yarn tends to split while I’m crocheting—and keep in mind, when it comes to crocheting, I’m practically a beginner :-). Is it possible to make an animal that looks like an amigurumi using Drops Cotton Merino instead? Will it hold its shape? Or is there something else from Drops? I definitely don’t want the stuffing to show through. I’d really appreciate a great tip :-)

The specific yarn you use isn’t that important; what matters is crocheting very tightly—maybe even using a smaller hook size than specified—and then it should work out fine with Cotton Merino too. That way, the tiger will also turn out softer than if you used just cotton ☺️

....unfortunately, the Drops Love You yarn isn’t suitable either, because it splits too—I’ve knitted with it. Even though I really like Drops, I actually prefer crocheting with Catania or Hobbii’s cotton.... Then you can just pop “the animals” in the washing machine.... 
But let me know how it works out when you crochet with the Cotton Merino.
