Crocheting Bells—A User’s Initiative

Dear users, dear authors,
A user told me that she’s been crocheting a bell every day since the run-up to Christmas and wants to keep doing so until the lockdown—or even the pandemic—is over.
Bells are also a symbol of peace. Isn’t that a lovely idea?
Would any of you like to join in? Do you have similar ideas?
Let me know what you think.

Please upload only your own photos. I’d love to see pictures of the peace bells.

Dear Josefa,

it’s nice that this user is doing this for herself and enjoys it. But what does she do with all those bells afterward?

It’s not for me, because it has no practical use for me. Yes, bells are a symbol of peace, but for me, bells and peace have nothing to do with COVID-19. But if it brings her joy, then that’s good and right for her.

Personally, I prefer hands-on activities where you’re actually doing something concrete for people: for example, knitting warm clothes for premature babies or warm wool socks for those in need, which are distributed by charity organizations. I’m just more of a practical person.

Best regards, Ina

Thanks for your post, Ina.
I sent the link to that user. Maybe she’d like to add something.

I’ll donate the (many) bells to an organization that wants to book a booth at a craft fair—which was canceled in 2020. Hopefully, the money will cover the booth fee.
Before Christmas, I also crocheted a few bells, which I then gave away as gifts.

Dear Elke,

that’s really a great idea. I crocheted some snowflakes before Christmas. While searching online, I also came across these cute little bells. I’m just wondering how to stiffen them and what to shape them over. Maybe you have a tip for me, or do you crochet them flat?

Does anyone else want to say anything about this?

Are these the bells we see in GlocksQueen’s profile picture? They look really pretty.

Hi Petra,
I’m sorry, I’m not quite up to speed here yet.
I wanted to offer the patterns, but I don’t have a VAT ID.
But to answer your question: I crocheted the bells before Christmas.
Then I decided to make one every day for as long as the lockdown lasts.
I didn’t realize there would be so many…
I hope I’ll be able to upload the patterns soon.
I’ll then sell the bells for a cause.
Best regards, Elke

Good morning, Elke,

Yes, no one would have thought that the lockdown and the pandemic would last this long. I still remember exactly the day my boss sat down with me in my office—March 18, 2020—and said we had to apply for short-time work.

One bell every day… quite a collection has built up by now. I think your bells are very, very pretty.

All the best, and stay healthy
