African violets

It’s already about 10 years old and is blooming for the first time this year. It stopped blooming for almost 7 weeks, but now it’s producing one flower head after another—I have three of them sitting side by side in a planter, and when all three are in bloom, it’s a sea of purple flowers.

You’ve been waiting 10 years for those flowers? My respect. Because without flowers, they don’t really look very pretty. It’s like with orchids, but I always manage to get those to bloom again.

  I also had an African violet many years ago, but no luck—it died within a short time.

But when they’re in bloom, they’re beautiful plants. Maybe now, in the spring, is their blooming season.

Wow, 10 years is really impressive, and it’s blooming beautifully. I used to have a lot of Usambara violets. They’re super easy to propagate—just stick half a leaf into the soil, and a new plant will grow from it.

I completely misread that. I think the flower is really pretty. Maybe I should give it another try, too. 

I’ve never had an African violet before.
