Well, personally, I don't really need it either. But for some people, it might actually be a good thing to have these kinds of "designated" days so they think of others for once 😄
We celebrate Valentine’s Day every day, and even after 33 years, we still say “I love you” to each other almost every day—from the bottom of our hearts. I’m so grateful to have the sweetest man in the world by my side. That’s worth more than winning the lottery.
We’ve never really made a big deal out of Valentine’s Day because neither of us likes set dates for this kind of thing. We feel the same way about Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and similar holidays.
I don’t think much of these “special” days that have, more or less, trickled over to us from the U.S.
Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and soon probably Thanksgiving (we used to celebrate Harvest Festival at church). It’s all becoming so incredibly commercial.
I find it pretty “convenient”…
my husband’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day, so I can find some “cute” little things in the stores that I’d otherwise have to search forever to find. Things like heart-shaped decorations and the like.
Otherwise, I could totally do without it… just telling or showing someone how much you like them on this one day feels so forced…
It’s not just about showing how much you care about someone on this day, but also about thinking of others on this day. And I think you can use any occasion to celebrate something!
After reading all the comments, I didn’t dare come out as Valentina.
I love this day. It’s something special to me. Even before my “long-term relationship,” I always asked someone if they’d like to be my Valentine on this day. I always had a date planned for this day, and my date was always thrilled that I’d chosen them.
For 19 years now, the man of my heart has been my Valentine on February 14, and we always do something special. We even often take time off work during the week for this day. But we also have many other days throughout the year that we set aside just for the two of us. This day has nothing to do with gifts—it’s all about spending quality time together. We both work and don’t have much time for each other in the evenings, and on weekends, the family is often involved. This day belongs only to us.
Petra, that’s a particularly lovely idea with “Valentina and Valentin.” I also sent a little note today to the people who are important to me. Bringing joy to others is always a wonderful thing.
