I think granny squares are an exciting project because they offer so many possibilities for combining colors and shapes. You can sew them together to make all sorts of things, like a blanket, a poncho, or something similar. And they’re perfect for using up leftover yarn.
I LOVE granny squares.
I especially like the simple ones with 3 single crochets and chain stitches in between.
The more colorful, the better.
I’ve already made a blanket, ponchos, a shawl, and several jackets out of them.
Exactly—I love these crocheted granny squares, too. You can use up your leftover yarn with them, and when you piece them together one by one, you end up with something big, like blankets, pillowcases, jackets... there are so many possibilities. You can also vary the patterns within a granny square. You can really let your creativity run wild with them. (Animal motifs, flower motifs...)
A granny square like this is quick to crochet, and it never gets boring. Oh, and you can even make bags out of them. Perfect.
What I also love, besides the wide variety of possibilities...
is that you constantly have little moments of accomplishment and can “check something off.”
You’re just as happy about every finished granny square as if you’d completed the whole project :)
Maybe it’s also because they’re so small and you can take them anywhere to work on them… And if you manage to make them all the same size, it’ll eventually turn into a really beautiful project… The great thing about granny squares is that you can also learn new patterns on a small scale
