Three doll outfits

So, the clothes for the dolls are sewn, but the dolls aren't ready yet [image removed]
I want to start on them now, though, since I know how big the dolls will be—it was easy to sew the clothes ahead of time.

Beautiful. I like the yellow one best. Did you use velvet for that?

Now I’m really looking forward to seeing the dolls.

This is a scrap of panne velvet that my oldest daughter brought over—it’s great that she lives only 150 meters away; all it takes is a phone call, and depending on who needs what, she’ll bring it over if you don’t have any left yourself.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Not exactly when it comes to craft supplies, but otherwise that happens to us a lot, too—you need something, and your daughter or son just pops by for a quick visit.

It already looks very pretty. But only once the matching dolls (with their glasses) are wearing the outfits will the sisters be able to tell which doll is theirs. I’m really excited to see it.

Wow, those are some really pretty clothes you’ve sewn there, Akela. I’m also curious to see what she looks like wearing them.

Akela, that turned out really pretty—I’m also curious to see what it looks like when the doll is wearing it.

What fabric are you using for the doll?
Best, Gabi

I use doll jersey, Gabi; it’s the best material you can use without everything stretching from Hamburg to Rome ;-)

What’s the difference between regular jersey and doll jersey?

Doll jersey is somewhat stretchy, but it’s knitted more tightly than regular jersey for clothing, and it comes in skin tones—in various shades. If I want to embroider regular jersey, I have to “glue” it to the embroidery stabilizer with a little textile glue, because otherwise it might wrinkle afterward and the whole thing will look really unsightly. With doll jersey, I can stretch it—along with the embroidery stabilizer—into my hoop and tighten it firmly without it warping. Doll jersey also has to be able to withstand a lot more than regular jersey, because kids don’t always handle their toys gently, and a toy has to be able to withstand that without runs developing or holes forming right away.

Thanks for the info.
It's amazing what's out there :-)
