who had fun (online) shopping?

Dear Josefa,
I’d enjoy shopping in person at a yarn store even more. There, you can touch and feel everything, and see the colors in person.
But unfortunately, we have to make do with online shopping for now. You really need to know exactly what kind of yarn you’re buying online, otherwise you might end up disappointed. I just placed an order for felting wool. Let’s see what the colors look like in real life. The advantage is that it gets delivered right to your door. But I’m looking forward to when my local yarn shop is allowed to reopen. Hopefully the owner still has enough savings to get through this latest round of closures.

Ina, I feel exactly the same way! Since I had a hunch that stores would have to close again starting next week, I stopped by the yarn shop today and ordered some cotton for a comfort blanket—and once again, I realized that colors can look very different on the screen versus in real life. Luckily, sometimes there are color charts with yarn swatches!

I’m not much of an online shopper either. I’m still making do with what I have in stock.

But I won’t have enough yarn for my baby blanket. Before I order more, though, I’m going to see what I can find in the very back of my boxes. I hope I’ll find something that goes well with it.

Result: I haven’t bought anything yet this January. 

I only buy from hand-dyers now, and I was able to see the quality of their yarns for myself at various wool festivals before the pandemic. So I order online quite often.
Right now, I’m knitting with cashmere—it’s incredibly luxurious and just wonderful to knit with.

I actually have enough wool in stock, but never quite the right kind. Unfortunately, there aren’t any wool stores here anymore—I have to go to Singen (30 km away) or Friedrichshafen (about 50 km away), or settle for the limited selection at Drog. M.
