Dear users, dear authors,
where do you keep your yarn?

Oh my... I’d say everywhere.
Some of it in drawers—and there are quite a few—and some of it in pretty boxes.

Anywhere my cats can’t get to. They just get into trouble with it.

Mostly in boxes and containers, some of which aren’t cat-proof… and right now, unfortunately, the yarn I’m currently working with is still in a basket and a bag in the living room.

Everywhere. In bags, in boxes, in drawers, in the closet. Right now, a lot of it is scattered all over the sofa around me.

I knit and knit, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any less. But I’ve been buying significantly less this year than in previous years.

Oh my, I just pictured Petra surrounded by her yarn :-)
Luckily, I have an attic available. Half of it is home to my yarn. My son used to have his little hideaway here. Now there are shelves with two compartments each under the eaves. The compartments hold transparent plastic boxes that seal tightly. And that’s where the yarn lives. But since that’s not enough, I also have rolling boxes and cardboard boxes filled with yarn. I know exactly where everything is.

Hi, I have a small storage closet that’s full of craft supplies. Like Schnuckelina, some of it is stored in clear boxes (yarn, embroidery thread, embroidery fabrics, other fabrics), each treated with moth repellent, plus meters upon meters of magazines and books. But the projects I’m currently working on (and that’s often several at once) also end up lying around on the couch or travel with me here and there.

I have a bench/chest next to my couch that’s stuffed to the brim, plus a large Kalax shelf unit from a Swedish manufacturer with baskets, and also a Billy bookcase containing yarn as well as various accessories in boxes and baskets. Everything except the bench is in the guest room, which used to be one of the children’s rooms.

Oh my, some of you are really very organized! For me, it’s more chaotic. Yarn goes wherever there’s space: in closets, boxes, underbed storage boxes, drawers... In principle, the yarn is sorted by quality and color, but when I’m working on a project, things tend to get a little mixed up, especially when my grandchildren come to visit. Then the yarn gets quickly stuffed somewhere. And then I have to reorganize it every now and then. In the process, I keep finding new little treasures that I’d completely forgotten about.
Good thing my shop’s motto is “Patterns for Leftover Yarn”...

I have the entire bottom row of our Kallax unit filled with yarn. That’s 6 of these fabric boxes full. Sorted by yarn cakes, cotton crochet yarn, thin crochet yarn, leftover yarn, unfinished projects, and crochet magazines.
So it’s easy to keep track of. That’s a lot of yarn by my standards, though it’s slowly dwindling thanks to my “yarn diet.”
I actually take up much more space with my bead boxes and accessories.

Any other ideas?

In boxes and cardboard boxes—and, of course, with several projects within easy reach in the living room.

I never have so much yarn that a single drawer wouldn’t be enough, and by now a good portion is missing again because I needed quite a bit of it for my dolls’ hair :-)

My treasures are—like several others’—stored in clear boxes with lids (hello from IKEA). Since they’re actually under-bed storage boxes, they’re stacked on top of each other, so you get a little workout whenever you have to rummage through the second box from the bottom :-))

Current projects are stored in the living room, but also in boxes with lids (thanks to the cat).

Veeeery current projects also tend to take over the living room table *blush*, so now—since no visitors can come over—I have to keep motivating myself to finally put all that junk away again ;-)

Schneckenkind: I’m guessing that you don’t have a mischievous kitten running amok with your projects! At my place, my WIPs often end up on the coffee table or get left on the couch, but right now I have to put everything straight into boxes with lids and store them as high up as possible—our little one loves to climb and is already scaling the shelves!

@Wollbaerli

Well, we do have a cat, but we live in a very green area, and he’s usually out on patrol at night. In the morning, he brings back a little mouse, a titmouse, or something similar for breakfast, and then he’s so exhausted that he sleeps all day :-))

But of course, he still manages to snag a ball of yarn every now and then...
