My scissors

These are the scissors I’m currently using, and I need each one at some point. There’s also a pair that’s ONLY for paper, because you should NEVER cut paper with fabric scissors. Next to the paper scissors are my *small* cutting shears; then the small pair that looks like a flying egg—that’s my seam ripper; then the large pair for cutting fabric; the small pair with the blue handles is also for paper; then my pinking shears, the appliqué scissors, and the small pair for trimming threads.

It looks just like a surgeon’s set of surgical instruments. Thank you so much, dear Akela, for showing us your scissors and telling us what each one is used for. I own some of these too, but I’m not exactly a model of consistency when it comes to using them separately. The worst part is probably that I sometimes use them to cut tape, and then the blade gets stuck. And sometimes I gather all my scissors and take them to my brother to have them sharpened. He has the right tools for that.

If I were a tailor, I’d certainly be more careful with my scissors. So I have my three favorite pairs, and I take good care of them. But I also have two more pairs for cutting hair—a pair of barber shears with a smooth blade and a pair of thinning shears for thinning out hair.
