Is sewing the most popular craft?

Dear users, dear authors,
I’ve heard that sewing is supposed to be the most popular type of craft. Would you agree with that?

I certainly do :-) For me, sewing comes before all other crafts like knitting, crocheting, or hand embroidery—but that’s also partly because I’ve been able to turn my profession into a hobby. :-)

I don’t know—there are different groups of people with different preferences. For me, all craft techniques are equally valuable, and I like sewing just as much as I like knitting or crocheting. It just depends on what I feel like doing at the moment. But whether sewing is the most popular overall, I can’t say. It’s kind of a trend-related question… A few years ago, I think crocheting was more popular.

I do think sewing is the trend right now. Especially when it comes to sewing masks, there are many people who only started sewing because of that. For me, all types of crafts are the same. The advantage of crocheting and knitting is that you can take them with you anywhere—something you can’t do with sewing.

I’ve been sewing more again lately, too. Last night, I quickly sewed a little piggy. And I was surprised to realize that it would have taken me at least twice as long to crochet it.

But with sewing, you always need a machine; I can crochet anywhere.

My favorite is and always will be crocheting. Right now, I’ve rediscovered knitting, but then I run into the same problems with my hand—or rather, my fingers—falling asleep while I knit.
I’ve never really gotten into sewing. It’s probably because I never learned how to do it properly. I do have a sewing machine, but when I sew something, I do it by hand. I even sewed my 2 x 4 m curtain by hand.

I’m not so sure whether sewing is the favorite type of craft.
Personally, I love sewing, but I also love embroidery, knitting, crocheting, spinning—just doing crafts with fabric or yarn, making something with my own hands. It makes my heart happy 😘
When you can say, “I made that myself.” 😊

I can definitely imagine that a lot of people are sewing this year. With all the mask-making, many people have surely picked up their sewing machines again—or for the first time—and have stuck with it due to the limited options for leisure activities.
That’s how it was for me, too. On top of that, I finally got a sewing machine that works well and doesn’t cause immediate frustration.
However, it requires significantly more space and quiet—it’s not something you can just start and set aside. And it creates a lot more mess. Threads and scraps are flying everywhere, scattered all over the apartment—I envy everyone who has a dedicated sewing room and doesn’t have to keep setting up and taking down their work.
For me, it’s a great additional option. Still, I can relax much better when I’m crocheting.

Not for me.
That’s one reason I prefer to offer patterns that don’t involve sewing.

Sewing is just great… I’ve been sewing my own clothes since I was 13… So, of course, I’ve gotten a lot of practice over the years… Even now, at almost 60, I still sew almost everything myself… Or I alter things… I love it… By now, I have a whole fleet of sewing machines… I also made a living from sewing for years… Back then, I mostly made handbags out of faux leather…
Sewing is just wonderful… I still love it just as much as ever

What’s great about sewing is that you can usually finish projects faster. But the downside is that you can’t just do it “on the side.”
I can also crochet and knit in the evening while watching TV, or in the afternoon in the garden or on the balcony, and even when I’m out and about.
You can’t do that with sewing.
