I have a whole box of it. Is this something used for filet crochet?

Hi Petra,
People used to crochet or knit large tablecloths or small doilies out of it. They just had such a beautiful sheen.

And of course you can use it for filet crochet if you like that shiny look.

Best regards, Ina

Thanks, Ina—I don’t think this is for me. I’ll try listing it online.

Hi,
my mother used this material to make curtains and bedspreads. I’ve tried it too—it’s pretty tricky to work with, but the results are gorgeous. It’s lightweight, has a nice sheen, and irons easily. It’s amazing that you have a whole box full of it. I’d say—it’s gold dust👌

Dear Petra, you should keep one skein of each color for yourself. You can use them to crochet wonderful Christmas decorations in the shape of stars. They turn out very delicate and, of course, need to be starched beforehand. In any case, they look very pretty as Christmas tree ornaments. And especially in the natural colors that are so trendy right now, I can imagine them looking absolutely lovely.

Because the yarn is so smooth, though, it’s really hard to wind it into a ball. It’s better to use a piece of cardboard and wind it around that instead (... speaking from experience).

Best regards—Ina

Hi Ina,
thank you so much for your tips. I don’t just have the skeins—I also have some that are wound around cardboard tubes. But they have one thing in common: they’re INCREDIBLY slippery.

Dear Petra, I think the colors are absolutely gorgeous. But you’re right—these yarns are really extremely slippery. I also inherited three cones from my mother-in-law once and crocheted something with them. Since the yarn really doesn’t have any grip at all, it was difficult to keep it at the right tension to crochet my stitches.

Later on, I always used it to make tassels for gift wrapping and bookmarks. I found the smooth yarn quite exhausting—as beautiful as it is to look at.

Best regards, Ina

I just had another quick look to see whether I had a picture for you of something I made with this rayon yarn. And sure enough, nothing ever gets lost on my computer. I once made some gift tags and crocheted all around the edges with this yarn.

The gift tags look great.

That just reminded me—I’ve got a few skeins of it stashed away somewhere, too.

@Wollefanden: I can’t wait to see what beautiful things you’ll create with it
