Tall Crochet Stitches

Are there any tips for crocheting tall crochet stitches? My problem: the last stitch of a treble or double treble crochet turns out too loose, and there’s too much yarn left during the final pull-through, even though I try my best.

I also don’t like huge holes in the double crochets. So, after I have the yarn loops on the hook, I pull the yarn tight again so that the work curls slightly around the hook. That way, I don’t end up with a huge hole at the end of the stitch. I’m afraid I can’t explain it any better than that—just give it a try.
