Don’t throw away old plastic, cardboard, or glass containers right away! You can often make wonderful things from them!

The cardboard rolls from toilet paper can be used wonderfully as containers. They give crocheted pieces the stability they need. Often you can no longer even tell that a toilet paper roll was used here.

The Münchner Kindl, the popular heraldic figure of the city of Munich, is a pretty souvenir and a great decoration for anyone who loves Munich. Since everyone born in Munich is called a “Münchner Kindl,” it also makes a fitting gift for anyone from Munich. This crocheted Münchner Kindl can be opened by removing the top part.

That way you can hide a little surprise inside.

An empty chocolate box  or tea bag box can be used as the base for a crocheted minibus :

Empty jam jars
don’t need to be thrown away, because you can make beautiful lanterns or candy jars from them by crocheting around the glass or just the lid. Here are a few examples:

This jar can be used as a candy jar or Halloween lantern .

The knitting snowman, a candy jar for everyone who loves handcrafts.Would you like to give a candy jar like this to a passionate crocheter? No problem: then the snowman simply crochets his scarf instead:

Both variations (knitting or crocheting snowman) are described in the pattern.

Anyone who likes coconut pastries is sure to enjoy a candy jar with a little monkey and coconut palm
and homemade coconut cookies:

For the honeycomb of little bee Hanny

a hexagonal cheese box was crocheted around.

Santa’s sleigh is made from a crocheted-over plastic tray, like the kind you get when buying berries. The runners are popsicle sticks that are boiled until soft to make them flexible.
And this is what the whole thing looks like once you have crocheted Santa and the reindeer to go with it:

For the forklift a small cleaning sponge and plastic straws were crocheted around. The forks can even be adjusted in height.

And finally, I’ll show you what lovely things you can make when you crochet around empty Kinder Surprise egg capsules :

wedding couple

lucky piglet

 Easter bunny and chick

 chef keychain with chip pocket

With this pattern you can crochet around empty jars.

Whether as a vase for a meadow bouquet or for romantic evenings with a candle on the patio.

Crochet pattern for crocheting around cans

All kinds of odds and ends can fit inside. They’re also great on the desk for pencils for our schoolchildren. The can is crocheted in spiral rounds, and leftover yarn works perfectly for the colors.

Here are my ideas for turning some things you would otherwise throw away into a new creation. Maybe there’s something suitable for you.

I hope you have lots of fun browsing and making these items. You’ll find more information, pictures, and the pattern itself by clicking on the heading.

Warm regards -  Yours, Ina

You can easily DIY leather soles for felted shoes from an old leather jacket or bag. The pattern includes a template for all shoe sizes and describes exactly how it works.

Here we crochet around an empty plastic bucket. The craft bucket gets a colorful striped cover all the way around, with lots of pockets. You can store all your crochet tools in the pockets. That way, your current crochet project is always neatly stored and can be carried from A to B.

Yes, the sweet treats are delicious ... and when the container is empty, you don’t have to throw it away. Why not turn it into a pretty container with a lid? You can store all kinds of things in it or — as I did, for example — make an Easter nest out of it. Click here for the gummy bear container.

You probably often buy large 1-kg plastic tubs filled with yogurt or pickles. Afterwards, they can be turned into great storage baskets for pens. Click here for 2 colorful little buckets. You’ll get two different versions and can also make great use of your yarn scraps.

And finally, there’s a free pattern for a lantern. All you need is an old jam jar and a little yarn. With a tea light inside, you’ll have a beautiful lantern.

All you need is an empty PET bottle, some leftover yarn, scissors, a ruler, a film marker and a thick sewing needle (for weaving in the yarn ends) to create these enchanting pieces of jewelry.

Thanks to the flexible and lightweight material, the bangles are super comfortable to wear, and they’re also washable at 30 degrees in a laundry bag.

Here’s a brief overview of the materials:

These “scrap-busters” are made from toilet paper rolls that are creatively decorated with leftover yarn and even buttons. They can be used as pencil holders, gift packaging, and much more. They also add a touch of fun to children’s birthday parties and can be given to guests as party favors at the end of the celebration.

Very easy to crochet, also suitable for beginners.
