Do you have any tips on upcycling stones?

Crocheted around stones

Wow, those stones covered in crochet look really pretty, Petra. What a great idea.

I like to paint them or write on them with acrylic paints and add my own personal motivational phrases.

Your stones are really beautiful.

I tried painting some a while back, too. I put the stones in the garden.

She uses her multi-markers to turn stones into funny little monsters, bees, beetles... I especially love the idea of using monsters in two different colors as game pieces, like for Nine Men’s Morris.

It’s definitely an account I can’t tear myself away from once I start looking ;- )

I hope you have a great time here with us anyway.

I really love your ideas for crafts you can make with stones. Stones are an inexpensive craft material, and they’re great for crafting with kids.

When we bought our property 20 years ago and had to dig up a lot of soil to build a basement, we uncovered many large stones. I then decorated them with the kids using the decoupage technique. Everyone had a lot of fun doing that. Feel free to take a look at our creations. Maybe you’ll feel inspired to try out one or two of these ideas.

This one was sitting on our stairs in the entryway, welcoming visitors:



I made these for friends who rented out a vacation home on the Baltic Sea. The large one sat next to the front door in the front yard, and the small ones were on the balcony—they served as newspaper weights, for example.





And these little ones were always used as napkin weights during barbecues. Everyone always thought they were funny and cool.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that one. I even hauled one of those really thick, big stones into the house back then. I needed a decorative piece to go between the plants in the sunroom. So I painted it royal blue all over—since we had blue pillows and a blue rug at the time—and glued some rhinestones on it. A little bling was a must :-)

Wow, Ina, your stones are real works of art! They look great! I haven’t tried decoupage yet, but maybe I will someday. You can create so many pretty things with it.

Have we covered everything there is to say about upcycling for now, or do you need more topics on this?
