Dear users, dear designers,
do you have ideas for upcycling cans and little buckets?

You can make something like this from peanut cans and the like, for example—a sewing or craft storage basket to place next to your sewing machine or craft project.

I often give plastic buckets from the supermarket a colorful new lease on life. They’re great for storing all sorts of things, and when crocheted with colorful yarn, they look great, too.

I use them for plants when propagating cuttings, and for hanging large pots (I place the small buckets inside so water doesn’t drip onto the carpet, and it’s cat-safe).

We also use small yogurt containers to grow seedlings :)

Best regards

I’ve already spruced up a few cans and enjoy giving them away as gifts. My can opener opens them without leaving a sharp edge, so I also like to give the cans away as packaging with a lid.

Painted with colorful paint, they’re also in my garden holding pruning shears and ties, or small plants or bouquets.

Decoupage and chalk paint

Or crocheted around, like here as a pencil holder—for schoolchildren, for example

I crochet covers for my granddaughter’s empty modeling clay jars in the same color as the lids and use them to store small odds and ends like rubber bands, paper clips, and letter clips. It looks pretty and colorful, and I can tell which jar is which just by the color.

Those are really great ideas. You’ll never throw a can in the trash again. You can make so many beautiful things out of them. Way back when the kids were still little, “can toss” was always a big hit, of course. It was popular back then and still is with the kids today. I don’t have a picture of it—it’s just stored in my memory.

Are there any other ideas?

I like to reuse empty containers—for example, I took two peanut cans, glued their bottoms together, and covered them with modeling clay so I can collect my used makeup pads in the bathroom until it’s time to do laundry.

I also modeled this concrete bee waterer using an old plastic container as a mold.

I like to store my concrete in these large yogurt buckets—it stays nice and clean and dry, and they’re great for storage.
