Images in patterns / product images: when are they helpful?

Dear users, dear authors,
how do you think images in patterns / product images should be so that you can benefit from them? Tell me your thoughts.

They should definitely be clear. Blurry photos of fuzzy yarn are no help at all. You have to be able to clearly see the stitches. The photos need to be large enough to make out the essentials. The background should be a solid color.

I know that many users print out the patterns right after purchasing them. To save printer ink, I therefore always choose a white background for the photo.

Yes, the stitches should be clearly visible. That’s why I often use a different yarn for the photos. I use arrows to indicate where, for example, you need to insert the needle.

In product photos, you should be able to see the entire piece clearly. Too much decoration around it can sometimes be distracting. It would also be nice to see the piece from the back in a photo.

And solid-colored yarn is preferable. With wildly mottled or multicolored yarns, it’s often much harder to make out the stitches.

Oh, and one more thing: Some authors haven’t included a single photo of the finished piece in their pattern. This makes the pattern much harder—or even impossible—to identify once it’s been downloaded: Which scarf was that again??? Ideally, I’d like to see at least the “cover photo” of the pattern on CrazyPattern, which would then also appear in the PDF document.
