Ran out of yarn and can't buy any more?

Dear users, dear authors,
what do you do when you absolutely need more of a certain type of yarn, but can't buy any more of it?

If the yarn hasn’t been discontinued for very long, there’s a good chance you can still find it somewhere online for a few more years—in a small yarn shop, a major auction site, or on eBay classifieds. Many individuals sell their yarn stashes—accumulated over the years—on these platforms, so you might get lucky sometimes. But eventually, that’s it. If too much time has passed, it’s simply no longer available. So my advice to myself and everyone else: Don’t let big projects sit around for too long—finish them promptly.

In a case like that, you have to get creative—for example, by unraveling a section and working in stripes with a yarn of similar quality but a different color. This can sometimes result in particularly beautiful, unusual pieces.
