How much yarn do you need at a minimum?

how much yarn do you need at a minimum to craft properly?

I don’t like buying yarn in bulk because, in the end, I might not have enough for my current project, and in the worst case, I might not be able to buy more. And if I buy too much, my yarn stash just keeps getting bigger! That’s why I always buy yarn on a project-by-project basis. When I have an idea in mind, I first check if I can make it with my leftover yarn (usually not ;-) ) and then buy what I need for it. There’s almost always a little bit left over, which just adds to my stash.

I need enough of each type so that I can spontaneously bring a project idea to life without having to buy more. I always factor that into my yarn purchases. And of course, that leads to a sizeable stash. I love it!

Right now, I’m on a yarn diet so I can free up some space again. I won’t restock until I can no longer bring my ideas to life on the spot. That could easily last until early next year. I definitely want to stick with it for a full year.

Right now, I’m also on a “yarn diet.” Since I usually plan smaller projects and can crochet, my yarn stash will last for a while longer. It’s also enough for a few large projects where I don’t need stuffing. My stash is only slowly dwindling. I’ve decided to stick to crocheting things from my existing yarn stash for now.
