Scrubby yarn

Is scrubby yarn easy to work with, and can it be washed?

I like to crochet dish sponges out of sponge yarn and give them away as little gifts. The bright, bold colors make the sponges a real eye-catcher in the kitchen.

The yarn is slightly scratchy, but that doesn’t bother me when crocheting—at least not with such small pieces. Because of this scratchiness, though, it’s great for removing dried-on food residue while doing the dishes.

Items made from sponge yarn can be machine-washed at 60° without losing their shape or color. They also dry quickly. This way, you have a sustainable product and always have a hygienically clean dish sponge on hand.

I like to crochet with it. I know you can also knit with it, but I haven’t tried that yet.
