Crocheting Cluster Stitches

What are cluster stitches, and what are they used for?

Cluster stitches are also called bobbles or popcorn stitches.

Basically, they’re 5 double crochets worked together. These stitches give your crochet project a special touch. There are a few small details to keep in mind to ensure the stitches show up on the right side, but it’s not difficult.

  You can use these stitches for bags, pillows, and blankets. They also create a great pattern on amigurumi.

I myself only recently discovered this stitch and have already made 4 amigurumi with it. More are definitely on the way 🦉

So do “cluster stitches” and “popcorn stitches” refer to the same thing? I created two threads for this because I thought they were different techniques.

Crocheting Popcorn Stitches (No Advertising)

Popcorn stitches are actually crocheted differently.
During my research, I also found patterns under this name that are crocheted to look like tufts or bumps. 

I think this popcorn stitch is crocheted with single crochet (sc), and these cluster stitches are made with double crochet (dc).
If I’m wrong, I’d love to learn more.
I love both types of stitches. This cluster stitch is also used to crochet a “thumb” on crochet figures (on the hand), and this popcorn stitch is used as a texture pattern on blankets or pot holders...
