What are these dolls called?

Monday, April 27, 2020 at 2:27 PM
Can anyone tell me what these dolls are called?
My girls used to play with them back then (25 years ago). You still see them at flea markets.

The body, including the upper parts of the arms and legs, is made of fabric (each one a different quality) and is stuffed. The head, legs, and arms are made of plastic.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything online.

Best regards, schnatter

My oldest daughter sewed doll bodies like these during her training as a dressmaker for Zapf—why don’t you check their archives, if possible? The faces also strongly remind me of Zapf dolls, because back then, the girls would get one of these dolls as a Christmas gift from their supervisor every year. My daughter still has all three of them.

There used to be dolls like that with fabric bodies and plastic arms, legs, and heads. They were called Schlummerle.

I have dolls just like that, too—a girl and a boy. I’ll see if I can find out, since I traded for them on a swap site a while back.

My oldest was really upset back then—she cried.

The dolls stayed with me after both of them moved out.

Thanks for your replies

Aren’t they called character dolls? You used to see them a lot at flea markets and Christmas markets, right? I think Simba made them, too.

Mine definitely have real character. That’s true.
I just asked Google and actually found them listed as character dolls.
Type that in and then click on “Images.” There’s a website in Austria run by a doll collector that shows some of them. Now I know what mine are called too. Interesting.
