Borders, Request for Help

Hello, this is my first time here, and I’d really like to ask for your help. A friend of mine wants me to make her a crochet border and has chosen a pattern from the book “Omas Häkelschatz.” However, the book only includes the crochet chart for one repeat. And since—for me—this pattern is quite complicated, I have no idea how to use it to make a border in the desired size. If anyone has the book, it’s the pattern on p. 167. Since the pattern gets wider toward the top, I’m worried that if I just sew several individual repeats together, it will end up wavy. Also, a finished repeat is only 7 cm high, but the border is supposed to be 30 cm high. Can anyone help me? Thank you so much! And stay healthy! Best regards

Hi misstressdarkness,
welcome to our forum,
Please upload only your own images, not images from a book. I had to remove it for that reason.
Is it possible to ask the author of the book for help?
Maybe someone here in the forum will have a helpful suggestion.
Good luck.

Hey there, misstressdarkness,
I have the book too, though I haven’t crocheted it yet.
My idea would be to maybe crochet the first 4–5 rows several times before the curved edge starts, so you can reach the height you want. Or add a few complete rows of double crochet in between, if that helps.

Best regards, Andrea

Okay, and sorry about that. Here’s a photo I took of the crocheted repeat. Thanks.

Hi Andrea,
thank you so much. Yes, I’ve already thought of that for the height. But my biggest problem is, how do I join multiple repeats together?

Omit the stitches at the edge between the repeats and simply crochet the repeats one after the other

Yeah, it’s me again.
You now have this repeat (for example, about 20 sts, i.e. the chain). First, you need to know how long or wide the border should be. One repeat measures about 7 cm.
If you want your border to be about 40 cm wide, you’ll need to crochet the repeat a total of 6 times—that’s 20 sts × 6 repeats = 120 sts/ch that you’ll need to make, plus the turning chain, and then work according to the crochet chart.
First, crochet the 1st row, then crochet the 1st row again a second time, a third time, and so on, until you’ve done it 6 times.
I hope I’ve explained it reasonably well. Good luck!
