I was talking to a friend the other day about what the Animal of the Year might be this year, and apparently it’s the mole—at least, it’s been named the Animal of the Year 2020 by NaBu. Whether it will catch on in the world of crafts remains to be seen.
In any case, I think it’s really cute ♥ ♥ ♥
Trends are something I’ve never really followed, because I use my own judgment to make my own decisions and don’t let any self-proclaimed fashion gurus dictate to me what’s in and what’s out.
My personal trend this year is treating myself to pieces in my favorite colors.
Right now, I’m knitting a chair cover out of leftover yarn in shades of green, orange, and red, with white and cream as contrasting accents.
If it turns out well, I’ll make one for my husband in his favorite colors, too. Gray, blue—and for a contrasting color, I was thinking of a warm shade of yellow. Our kitchen is going to be colorful.
And the year has only just begun. But the shades of green, orange, and red will be with me all year long.
I was flipping through a catalog the other day and saw that three-quarter-length flared pants (pants skirts) are making a comeback. Well, that’s not for me. I never liked them back then either. But I don’t follow trends anyway—I just go with what I like. You just have to wait long enough, and then the old trends become the new ones again.
You don’t have to follow every trend, of course. Today I happened to pop into a boutique again, and it looks like pants with elastic at the bottom are back in style. Not my thing, though—nor are fabric trousers that tie at the waist.
I’ve never liked culottes either.
As CreatOwl says, if the two go well together, that’s fine; otherwise, I’ll just keep looking until I find something I like or until it’s “in” again—or I’ll crochet it myself.
Most of the time, I like clothes that I feel comfortable in and can move around in, or that are practical or versatile.
I feel exactly the same way as you do. It has to be comfortable and I have to like it, otherwise I won’t wear it. And I wouldn’t make anything by hand that I don’t like either. Otherwise, I wouldn’t enjoy doing it.
So I couldn’t care less about trends. That said, there have been some trends in recent years that I’ve actually liked. This year, it’s more about the colors—they’re totally my thing.
As for culottes and Bermuda shorts… I’ve always liked them and enjoy wearing them because they’re so comfortable.
I just looked up the current fashion trends—here they are:
1st place—Bermuda shorts and culottes
2nd place—guess what—this will make some of you happy:
Handicrafts!!
Dresses with crochet, lace, and mesh details in a folklore style
No. 3 – Neon
No. 4 – Clothing with large or small polka dots (we’ve seen this before, too)
No. 5 – Three-piece sets – meaning pants or a skirt with a jacket and a vest
No. 6 – Colorful leather
No. 7 - Vintage denim
8th place - ’60s and ’70s retro
9th place - Bras paired with skirts or pants
10th place - Hot pants
I have to say, none of this is for me. I’ll stick to my own style.
What I do really like, though, are the colors for spring/summer—namely red, orange, and blue.
It’s a gorgeous combination that lends itself well to all kinds of crafts. Cheerful, colorful, and a real mood-boosting mix. Other vibrant colors are also in style. So we can start crafting some beautiful, colorful pieces.
This goes perfectly with the little skirt I’m currently designing for Linja, my granddaughter. I want it to be nice and colorful and cheerful, too.
Well, I’d go for numbers 7 and 8, but I’ll have to pass on the colors. I don’t like red or orange at all—maybe burgundy, but nothing bright. I prefer turquoise, lime, berry shades, or dark tones. At least when it comes to clothes. Otherwise, I think pastel shades paired with gray or white are pretty, and rainbow colors work too😊
