Dear users, dear designers,
what are you planning for Christmas 2019?
And most importantly: What are you eating?

Hi,

we’re going on vacation to Garmisch on December 23. We’ll be enjoying a cozy raclette dinner at Christmas.
We’ll decide what to do once we’re there, depending on the weather.

Best regards
Heike Steuer

We’re going to have a very cozy time at home with friends. We’ll be having a mushroom stir-fry with oyster mushrooms and button mushrooms, served with potatoes and red cabbage. In the afternoon, we’ll have homemade cookies and gingerbread.

We’re heading to my in-laws’ for the holidays and staying in the guest room for a few days—since they don’t live right around the corner, my husband wants to spend at least Christmas with them.

We’re usually invited to his brother’s house on Christmas Eve, where we’ll be treated to a meal. One day my mother-in-law will cook, and the other day I will—I’m already busy prepping in advance, testing out what can be prepared ahead of time and possibly frozen.
So far, the plan is: a vegetarian lentil soup with orange juice as a starter, salmon with rutabaga and potatoes with a salad as the main course, and for dessert, Portokalopita (Greek orange cake soaked in syrup and liqueur...) with vanilla ice cream.

For later in the evening, I’ve prepared hot apple punch and beer liqueur.

If my brother-in-law gets a sudden craving for his beloved buttercream cake, I’ll whip it up at the last minute… everyone else (including me…) will groan, but somehow it’ll get eaten anyway :-) — I’ll be packing the ingredients, just in case.
Somehow, we always end up lugging half our household along for Christmas; the car is packed to the brim.

My husband and I will be spending Christmas Eve alone at home; he’d like grilled chicken for dinner, but I’m not sure yet what side dishes I’ll make. On Christmas Day, I’ll just make a light lunch, because we’ll be at my youngest daughter’s in the afternoon—that’s where the whole family is getting together. She has enough room for everyone, and that’s the best part I’m looking forward to: having all the kids and grandkids together at once—it’s better than any gift, no matter how great. We’ll have coffee there, and a buffet for dinner.
