What can go wrong when embroidering (without an r), and how can it be avoided?

Wrong needle, pulling the embroidery thread too tight—it ends up looking puckered. It also depends on the fabric and thread; if the two don’t match, the result won’t look good. You should use an embroidery hoop; without one, it looks terrible.

When doing cross-stitch, make sure the crosses are always stitched in the same direction.

And be sure to turn on a good light, because some designs have such subtle color variations that it’s easy to miss the tiny differences and end up choosing the wrong color. It’s easier to see in daylight (and with good reading glasses for needlework).
