Dear users, dear authors,
which type of yarn do you like best right now?

I prefer natural fibers, and my favorites among them are merino wool and cotton. Baby merino is also on my shortlist when I’m knitting for kids. Alpaca is also very comfortable against the skin.

For ultra-soft luxury, I still swear by high-quality cashmere. I’m currently knitting a shawl for myself with it and am always amazed by how incredibly soft this yarn is. For hats, scarves, and sweaters, I like to use baby alpaca (from a certified retailer)—it’s also very soft and comfortable against the skin. For baby blankets, I like to use merino wool. Over time, you discover your favorites and usually stick with them. There are now many more types of wool on the market that you could try, but they’re also very expensive.

It depends on the project.

For amigurumi, cotton of course; for slightly larger projects, maybe Scheepjes Stone Washed as well.
I like yarn cakes (i.e. stranded yarns), but not pure cotton ones.

My favorite yarn (though I think it’s also very expensive) is Rowan Felted Tweed. And someday I’ll crochet myself a gorgeous favorite sweater out of it :-))

But I also like merino wool (preferably blended with materials like alpaca and silk).

Hmm... I think it’ll be faster (and shorter) if I just list the yarns I DON’T like :-)

- acrylic (at least most of it) and
- anything super-fuzzy (mohair, for example). I can’t work with it and end up coughing constantly :-\/

Right now, I really enjoy working with merino wool. Not long ago, I knitted a scarf with some alpaca in it, and that was great too. Cotton, of course, e.g. for dishcloths or toy animals.

I don't really like knitting with linen, and I can't wear mohair; it really itches.
