Violetta is a very special unicorn—namely, a cuddly-soft hobby horse. She’s crocheted from white plush yarn; her mane is made of purple yarn, and her reins and horn are made of silver-gray cotton. The “stick” is a soft pool noodle. This reduces the risk of injury, even during wild play.

Crocheting with plush yarn isn’t that hard if you run a thin cotton thread alongside it as a guide thread. That way, you can see the stitches more clearly. You’ll find more tips on crocheting with plush yarn in the pattern.

And here is a little unicorn to play with, also done in shades of purple. This is a wonderful way to use leftover yarn. The unicorn is only about 12 cm tall (sitting), so it can easily be taken along anywhere.

Mathilde the Unicorn is available, among other options, in a large version so that a music box or various crinkle and rattle elements can fit inside. This makes her a wonderful gift for a birth, and with the colorful rainbow colors you can also use up your leftover yarn.

If you prefer something more neutral, or if you’re preparing a gift for a birth and don’t yet know whether it will be a boy or a girl, the zebra is a great choice. It also has room for a music box, but can also simply be filled with crinkle and rattle elements as a toy, or just be a simple cuddly toy.
