Failed Color Change

Hi everyone,
I have a problem and I’m hoping you might be able to help me.
I got the pattern for a fox, and now I’m having trouble making the color change look as nice as I’d like.
The fox has a white belly, so I’m switching from orange to white. That goes well until I get to the second row of white, where I have to increase one stitch on each side. As you can see, it looks good on one side, while on the other side there’s a clear break—like a snag. I have no idea how to fix this.
Based on what the pattern says and what the seller of the pattern told me, this shouldn’t happen, and it’s not clear why it’s happening to me. She apparently never had this problem.
So please take a look at the pictures—maybe you have an idea for a solution...
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Anna

The problem is, red is so hard to photograph. I can’t see much in the second picture with just the two crocheted rounds of yellow. I can’t really make out the stitch pattern. And in the ones with more yellow, there are some threads in the way.

Could it be that when you switch from one round to the next, you’re crocheting one stitch too few, so the yellow yarn appears too soon on the right side?

Oh yeah, taking photos isn’t that easy. I just took some new ones with my laptop camera—I think these are better.
I always mark the rounds, and I paid very close attention to that and tried it countless times, so I’m sure I didn’t miss any stitches.
But maybe the photos will help after all.

The first of the yellow stitches looks good and correct. I can’t really see the last purl stitch.

P.S.: It’s normal for everything to shift a little to the right when crocheting in the round, so the two yellow sides don’t look exactly the same.

Do you know, in general, how to make a color change like that invisible? Especially when you also have to widen the color section, like with the white spot on the belly, which is slightly oval-shaped?

I don’t think there’s a color change in single crochet that’s completely invisible. ;) I don’t know of any.
There’s probably only one that looks nicer. But I think you’ve already done that—when switching from one color to the next, you finish the stitch started in the old color with the new color, so you pull through the last loop with the new color.

When I want to make my occasional color changes as inconspicuous as possible—which really only makes sense if you’re crocheting entire rounds in one color—I work a slip stitch in the old color and another in the new color at the color change.
But I don’t always do that.

P.S.:
It occurs to me that I could skip crocheting into the last stitch of the first color, but instead crochet two stitches with the second color into the first stitch of the second color. I’ve never tried that, though. It might look messy and untidy, but it might be worth a try.
