I crocheted
Hippy the Seahorse with a special gradient yarn (Moonlight by Bumbo). This yarn is made from a blend of 98% acrylic and 2% polyamide and is dyed in such a way
that the color gradients show up perfectly. A glitter thread is worked into the yarn, giving the
yarn a wonderful metallic shimmer. For the crest, I used a leftover bit of scrubby yarn.
A piece of chenille wire was worked into Hippy’s tail so that it doesn’t unroll again.
Of course, you can also crochet Hippy with any other yarn, but it turns out especially pretty with gradient yarn.
And since we’re already underwater:

the
crocheted seashells also look especially pretty and realistic with gradient yarn. However, I recommend a yarn with a short color gradient, such as sock yarn. But in principle, you can use almost any yarn for this. A great project for using up leftovers!
If you don’t want to deal with complicated color patterns, then crochet this
Origami Bag

with gradient yarn as well. The bag is made using Tunisian crochet. If you want to learn this technique from scratch, this pattern is perfect for it. The Tunisian simple stitch is explained in detail. Other than that, you don’t have to pay attention to anything else, because you only crochet a rectangle. There are no increases or decreases, and the color pattern comes from the ball of yarn, as mentioned. At the end, the bag is folded in a special way and sewn together. Then we crochet the decorative edging and handle conventionally again.
