Knitting turning stitches

Hi everyone, I bought a pattern for a Smurf hat, and

the instructions say to knit a turning stitch at the beginning of the row. How exactly do I knit a turning stitch? Is there a video tutorial, perhaps?

Hello,

I only know a turning chain stitch from crochet.
Are you knitting with short rows? If so, it could be referring to the stitch after which the work is turned and the row is knitted back.
This stitch can be worked either as a "double stitch," as is often used when knitting socks, or as a "wrap stitch."
Please take another look to see whether the pattern mentions anywhere how this stitch should be worked.

Unfortunately it doesn't say, but it's probably about
short rows.
I'll post the excerpt for the stitch to be knitted. Maybe it will make sense then!

Ear base: Now knit until          the first size 12 needle and work as follows: 8 sts k, turn 1 turning stitch, 3 sts p, turn 1 turning stitch, 4 sts k, turn 1 turning stitch, 5 sts p, turn 1 turning stitch, 6 sts k, turn 1 turning stitch, 7 sts p, turn 1 turning stitch, 8 sts k, turn 1 turning stitch, 9 sts p, turn 1 turning stitch, 10 sts k, turn 1 turning stitch, 11 sts p, turn 1 turning stitch and knit until the next size 12 needle and knit the 2nd ear base the same way.
