BLO = Double crochet in the back loop only?

Dear users, dear authors,
could someone explain to me what the abbreviation BLO—or “double crochet in the back loop only”—means?

Hello,
this means that the double crochet is not worked into the entire stitch, but only into the back loop.
The front loop then remains visible. BLO = “back loop only”
(Unfortunately, I can’t add the photos properly from my phone :( )

Stitches have two loops at the top (indicated by the horizontal Vs). Normally, you insert the hook into both loops.

However, you can also insert the hook only into the front loops (vMg or FLO = front loop only)
or

just into the back loop (hMg or BLO = back loop only).

The stitch pattern then looks something like this (for double crochet)

and here’s the reverse side when working into the FLO :-)

Wow, I’ve learned something new again. I’m familiar with crocheting into the back loop or front loop, but the abbreviation is new to me.
