Identify the material

I found some old wool.
I think it might be cotton.
Unfortunately, the label is missing.
Is there any way to determine what material it is?

Just hold a small piece in a flame—wool doesn't burn easily and goes out quickly, and it smells like burnt hair.
Cotton burns quickly, the flame glows brightly, and it smells like burnt paper.
Synthetic fibers melt more than they burn, and when they do burn, they give off a foul odor.

Have fun trying this out—you can also test some familiar yarns and compare them.

As I suspected, it’s cotton.
