Happy Mother's Day

Dear moms and grandmas,
I wish you all a wonderful Mother's Day.

I, too, wish all mothers a wonderful Mother’s Day! Enjoy this day, let yourselves be celebrated (you deserve it!), and don’t let anyone convince you that this day isn’t necessary! You have to celebrate the occasions as they come.

I’d also like to wish all the moms and grandmoms a wonderful Mother’s Day. Although I don’t think we need a Mother’s Day if it’s the only day children realize they have a mom—I know some families where that’s unfortunately the case—so I’d be happy to do without it. Thank God, my daughters know I exist all year round, and they show me that again and again.

I also wish all mothers and grandmothers a wonderful Mother’s Day and plenty of time for all the things that make life so special.

Yesterday, the whole family gathered at my mother’s hospital bedside. She has advanced cancer, and unless God works a miracle, she won’t be with us much longer. We could only express our love through tears—as corny as that may sound. 

Dear Rahel,

No, tears aren’t sentimental. When your heart is so sad and overflowing with love, words just fail you, and your feelings find another way to express themselves.

I wish you and your family hope and strength during this phase of life.
