Natalija’s revenue over 60,000 euros?

I’ve always been a bit curious, and all the numbers are out in the open here. So hopefully I’m not revealing any secrets or making anyone jealous. I find it really impressive that someone can generate over 60,000 euros in just 2.5 years just from crocheting and knitting. I’m talking about Natalija’s shop, and her first pattern is listed as being from spring 2013.

I happened to notice today (I don’t usually look there) that Natalija has over 22,000 sales on https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/store/Natalija. Looking at the prices, I’d roughly round it to 3 euros per pattern. That adds up to a pretty nice round sum.

Maybe everyone who’s good with their hands should try writing a pattern. Maybe I should give it a shot too :-))))

yeah, when you look at it that way, it looks great. Natalija has by far the most sales. There must be a reason for that.
But just having the right skills isn’t enough. The numbers start to look quite different when you see how much commission CP charges. Then there’s VAT, income tax, health insurance, other insurance, material costs, tax advisor fees, advertising, and… and… and…
But I hope you have a lot of fun if you decide to give it a try.

Congratulations on selling so many patterns!

this is a topic that interests me personally as well. I have always seen self-employment as advantageous. The benefits are obvious. While taxes and social benefits do take some effort, you can manage your own time yourself.

In my eyes, “being the boss of your own time” is essential to being truly free.

This does not necessarily apply to countries without democracy and with wars—there, people have to deal with completely different things (e.g., survival). 

Many people are often forced by money to do work against their own will. While there is currently no quick solution to this problem, at some point (very soon) countless robots and programs will do the tedious work. 

Every person should have the opportunity to develop their own creativity and do what they truly enjoy. But of course only if it does not harm other people in any way.

Many internet platforms (and that includes Crazypatterns) contribute to this, and that personally gives me endless motivation.

Congratulations to Natalija on nearly 24,000 sales.

When I started knitting and crocheting many years ago, the internet and platforms like Crazypatterns were still a long way off. Back then, you were lucky if you found a pattern in a magazine that matched what you wanted to make. The selection in 2015 is huge.

 

Wow, that’s really incredible! I know this post is a bit old, but it’s about what I was looking for...
Can I ask how long it took you to earn... let’s say, as much as you would from a mini-job? I don’t need to earn as much as Natalija (although I wouldn’t complain either ;o) ).
That amount alone would make me pretty happy...
And is it normal for sales to fluctuate that much?
I haven’t been here that long yet, but I always get nervous when nothing happens for a few days.

@ Daniela - sorry to be so blunt, but you’ll never make it with products that are protected by copyright. The cease-and-desist lawyers will probably be faster.

Hi Luise, thanks for your reply. Of course you’re right, but I saw those models as a challenge for myself.
Naturally, I can’t, mustn’t, and won’t continue down this path.
