Vest Pattern

Dear users, dear authors,
What is a vest pattern, and what do you do with it? Are there any other names or terms for this pattern?

Tell me what you know about it.

Well, I don’t know what a “Westenmuster” is—to me, the pattern just looks like alternating 3 knit stitches and 1 purl stitch.
If you Google it, nothing like that comes up either. Maybe the pattern was given that name because it was always used for vests in the family. Otherwise, you can knit vests in every pattern imaginable—there isn’t one specific one.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Well, exactly—that’s why I asked about other names for this particular pattern.

I don’t know what it’s called either… but I recently used this pattern (3 knit, 1 purl) for sock cuffs. I’d be interested to know more, though…
