I want to crochet an animal from the book “Edwards’ Cheeky Animal Parade.” The book recommends something called “Toft yarn,” which I’m not familiar with. So I’d like to use yarn from Drops Garnstudio instead, because I’ve had good experiences with it when knitting.
I just don’t know which yarn to order.
Has anyone else faced this choice or this problem before?
The pattern includes the following details:
Yarn weight: UK: medium
Amount: G: 60–100
Hook size: MM: 3
Size of finished animal: cm: 18
Gauge: cm: 5 cm x 5 cm = 6 sts x 7 rows
Does anyone know this online shop and have any advice? As a beginner, I’d really appreciate it, since I unfortunately don’t know anyone who’s familiar with this.
Which little animal were you planning to crochet? That way, we could look more specifically at which Toft yarn is recommended and what Drops yarn could be used as a substitute...
Best regards,
Annette
Well, based on the yarn length, I’d imagine that Drops’ “Cotton Merino” should work pretty well. It’s not pure wool like the original, but it might actually be better suited for a little animal. Or Puna, but that’s made of pure alpaca, and that might be too fluffy for an animal...
I hope this helps.
Best regards and good luck,
Annette
I agree with Annette on that — Drops Cotton Merino would probably be the closest substitute.
The yarn is really easy to crochet with and can also be used for amigurumi or animals.
